The Utah Bronco Club has announced that their annual Moab Bronco Safari (MBS) was denied an “intent to apply”. They will not appeal.

Grand County requires that all persons applying for an event permit to submit an “intent to apply.” If it’s approved by the county, then the applicant can apply for a permit. Unfortunately, due to incidents at last year’s MBS, the county unanimously denied Utah Bronco Club’s intent to apply.

“The permit process for Grand County is painful and drawn out because they deem our event ‘high impact’ “, the Utah Bronco Club said in a statement on Facebook. “The county did cite several issues that were legit and happened in 2023. We addressed those issues in our intent to apply but they were ignored or overlooked. The intent to apply is the first step in getting a permit, even if we won the appeal there was no guarantee they would grant the actual permit for our event.”

The Moab Sun News reported that there were complains against MBS to Grand County commissioners for participants driving above speed limits at the Old Spanish Trail Arena, minor property damage, and a “Bronco participant altercation with a softball parent.”

The Utah Bronco Club will move Bronco Safari to a new location, but will not be Sand Hollow. They are asking all members and participants to release their reservations and not to travel Moab during the dates of the original event: April 30th-May 4th— to show the economic impact of the county’s decision.

The Utah Bronco Club will also be donating $5,000 to the Blue Ribbon Coalition to help fight the new BLM plans that may close hundreds of miles of trails in Moab.

Needless to say, it’s an important reminder for us not to only respect the land, and those who share it with us— but also to keep those around us in check. One bad apple can ruin a whole bunch.
