Ford announced on Friday that they will be adding nearly 900 new jobs to a third crew at the Michigan assembly plant that produces the Bronco, Bronco Raptor and the new Ranger and Ranger Raptor pickup trucks.

To achieve this, Ford will be reducing production of the F-150 Lightning, the top-selling electric pickup in the U.S.  This follows the previous announcement of Ford tapping the breaks on their EV plans.

In the company’s press release, Ford stated that they are continuing to balance production to meet customer demand between gas-powered, hybrid and electric vehicles to optimize financial returns.

“We are taking advantage of our manufacturing flexibility to offer customers choices while balancing our growth and profitability. Customers love the F-150 Lightning, America’s best-selling EV pickup,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “We see a bright future for electric vehicles for specific consumers, especially with our upcoming digitally advanced EVs and access to Tesla’s charging network beginning this quarter.”

At the Bronco and Ranger assembly plant in Michigan, Ford will move from producing vehicles from five days a week to seven days a week with three crews working two shifts.

Some Broncos are still promoted with prices above MSRP.  In addition, the Bronco plant was impacted by the UAW strike this year. This should help production meet the current demand… and possibly take over Jeep Wrangler in sales in 2024?
