No. This isn’t groundhog’s day. Ford has issued another recall for Ford Bronco Sports after just announcing a recall for a different issue last week, which is now being investigated by the NHTSA.

The additional recall involves an estimated 403,000 Bronco Sports from 2021-2024 and 53,000 Mavericks from 2022-2023.

This recall is due to a power train control module and body control module which may not detect changes in the battery charge. This can cause a loss of drive power, including stalling at slow speeds or inability to restart after an auto stop/start event and loss of electric features like hazard lights.

As Ford states in their filing:

An insufficient calibration strategy for detecting sudden battery degradations during a drive cycle can lead to (a) a vehicle that is unable to restart after an auto start/stop event or (b) experience a stall while coming to a stop at low speed. Either may be accompanied by a loss of 12-volt accessories, including hazard lights.

Ford Recall 24S24

As of February, no accidents nor injuries were caused by the issue. But Ford is aware of 917 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and 54 customer complaints. In addition, there are three unverified reports of fire and 2 unverified reports of property damage.

To remedy the issue, Ford Dealers will recalibrate the power train and body control modules at no cost to their customers. However, the software update is not yet available and should arrive some time in the second quarter.

A Ford spokesperson told AP “safety is a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address this issue promptly and effectively.”

Ford owners affected by the recall should receive notices by mid-May. This recall number is 24S24. If you’re unaware, be sure to check out our previous story of another Bronco Sport recall.

A moment of silence for our Sport friends. They’ll be busy at the dealers over the next couple of months.
