They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But I’m sure we all have that one friend where that wasn’t quite the case.

And such is the case with the legend of the off-road realm they call “Freedom Bronco.” At the helm of this beast is none other than Walter Codesido, the fearless leader of the Sin City Broncos—a tribe of wild Bronco enthusiasts in the heart of Las Vegas. And while this Bronco happened in Vegas, it hasn’t stayed in Vegas.

You may have seen Walter’s build on the cover of magazines, featured on television or even on your dinner table in Moab. Wherever you may have come across this build, this adventure began many years ago… and with Bronco’s archnemesis— a Jeep.

Since 2003, Walter has been building cars. Growing up around his father’s body shop, Walter took an interest in cars— and mods— early on. As Walter says, “I don’t like stock vehicles. I always have to modify them.”

But his interest in off-roading began when his family was stationed in Colorado, thanks to his wife’s military service. While there, Walter joined some friends on a Jeep off-roading trip. He was hooked immediately. Soon after, he was the proud owner of a Jeep Wrangler, which didn’t stay stock for long.  He’d eventually move to Las Vegas and purchase a Gladiator, which also didn’t stay stock for long.

Watching the Bronco hit whoops at 40+ mph and not shake like my Gladiator would have, I said ‘That’s it. I’m sold.’

Fast forward to 2020. Walter was intrigued with the announcement of the new Ford Bronco. He especially liked Ford’s attention to modularity with the sixth generation. And after meeting up with a friend who received an early order of the Bronco 6g, Walter was ready to ditch his Jeeps. Walter recalls, “Watching the Bronco hit whoops at 40+ mph and not shake like my Gladiator would have, I said ‘That’s it. I’m sold.’” Walter placed an order for a 2021 Bronco Badlands. And that’s where the Freedom Bronco story begins…

Enter Steve Gupta, the wizard behind CoverKings. Knowing Walter’s creativity and expertise with builds, Steve pitches Walter an electrifying proposition for them both: why not flaunt his new off-road joy in the CoverKings booth at the 2022 SEMA Show? Walter, dreaming of SEMA glory for decades, responds with an emphatic “HELL YEA!”

Fueled by a deadline and SEMA glory, Walter pitches his vision to his colleagues at Count’s Kustoms (yes, the same Count’s Kustoms from Counting Cars on History Channel).  Ryan Evans, the world-famous automotive artist, recognizes the potential and gives the project his blessing. With just three months until SEMA, the race is on.

First up, they needed a theme for the build. Cynthia, Walter’s wife, and an Army disabled vet, inspired the design for the 2021 Bronco Badlands. Her four-year stint as a 91S H8 striker mechanic and recovery specialist in the Army made the project’s goal clear: honor her service. Thus, Freedom Bronco was born.

In September, the tear-down began with only six weeks left until SEMA. Count’s Kustoms team got to work in a hurry. The legendary Ryan Evans took charge of paint and airbrush while Zac Cannon handled the bodywork. It was all hands-on deck for a Sin City Bronco reveal party at Off Road Warehouse in Las Vegas on Oct 29, just two days before SEMA 2022.

Ryan Evan’s paint job appropriately features ghosted stars and stripes and red and blue pin striping worthy of an American off-road machine. The base kept the stock yellow and Ryan added pearlescent accents that sparkle in the sun. But it’s not as straight forward as it may seem. Upon closer look, you’ll find more stars than you originally thought.

The bodywork incorporates a Ram Air Hood, Bronco Fenders, and 4-Door Rear Quarter Kit both with a 5” Flare & 1” Rise from Advanced Fiberglass Concepts.

And finally, the Bronco grill lettering was replaced with red, white, and blue letters… of course.

Freedom Bronco, polished to perfection, made its official debut at SEMA 2022. It left its mark in the CoverKings booth with Auto Week crowning it the best Bronco of SEMA.

Since then, it has graced the pages of magazines, been featured on television and even adorns a table in the Moab Diner. For those itching to join the Bronco fever, meet up with Walter and the Sin City Broncos on your next visit to Las Vegas.
